In the year that marks its 50th anniversary, our fantastic Alicante-Elche Airport has won a “Best In Europe” award for airports with passengers in the 10 – 25 million a year category.
Alicante-Elche Airport Best In Europe
This prestigious award, announced in Paris earlier this month, was given by the Airport Council International which governs 90% of European airports, around 500 in total. Our very own Alicante-Elche beat off competition from airports in the same category such as Edinburgh, Vienna, Athens, Hamburg and Düsseldorf. Airports were marked on various criteria – including facilities, customer service (of both passengers and airlines), security, environmental awareness, operations, retail and external and institutional relations. The judges emphasised Alicante-Elche airport’s marketing activities, new routes and route network as well as the attention given to passengers, especially children and people with reduced mobility, and Alicante-Elche’s improvement in the fluidity of security controls.
ACI Europe represents 500 airports in 45 European countries, handling 90% of Europe’s commercial air traffic with 1,900 million passengers per year.
