In February, work began to create a new sports centre in the Upper Gran Alacant area.

Now, work is near completion and it is expected that the new facilities will be opened by Miguel Zaragoza Fernandez, the Mayor of Santa Pola, in November. The Gran Alacant Sports Centre will be named in memory to Jose Antonio Aleman Valero, a local man who gave much of his time to sport in Santa Pola before his death.

The use of the facilities in the Sports Centre in Gran Alacant will be free apart from a small fee for using the 2 new tennis courts and the 2 paddel courts, both of which have artificial grass. There will also be a sports court, an indoor football pitch and four petanca sites, plus a fully functional gym and dressing rooms.

Outside the new Sports Centre in Gran Alacant there will be green areas furnished with benches and tables as well as typical bushes, plants and trees. In addition, there will be a mini football pitch with artificial grass for children. The opening of the Sports Centre in Gran Alacant is to be very warmly welcomed by the residents of Gran Alacant, as now they will not have to travel to Santa Pola to use the sports facilities.

Once the new Sports Centre in Gran Alacant is officially opened, all activities, such as pilates, aerobics and fitness training, which are currently taking place in the municipal halls in the Santa Pola Life Resort, will be moved to the new Gran Alacant Sports Centre.
