The Worst Things About Living In Spain | Alicante Holiday Villas

Alicante Holiday Villas takes a light-hearted look at Spanish life.

What are the worst things about living in Spain? Here we take a very tongue-in-cheek view of Spanish life.

Fiestas
Having to put up with all these holidays. You just cannot get into the groove of working here because there are too many opportunities to have BBQ’s, go out for something to eat and stay out late because there is no work tomorrow.

No Rain
The fact that you have to enjoy the rain because it might be the last time that you see it for quite a long time. And whilst on that subject – not getting the opportunity to buy loads of coats, raincoats, umbrellas and hats to keep out the cold and wet.

Too Much Fruit And Veg
Having too many oranges, lemons and veg in your garden because things grow so easily here.

Children
Having to put up with well behaved children in restaurants because they are allowed in and welcomed with open arms.

Kissing Strangers
What is it with the Spanish that whoever you meet must be kissed on both cheeks? What’s wrong with a good old British handshake and forced smile?

Visitors
Having to put up with people regularly coming to stay and envying you for living in Spain. Why can’t they just leave us in our misery as described every day in the Daily Mail?

Cheap Wine
Not being able to spend enough on a bottle of wine to impress people when you visit them for dinner.

Fast Food
Not being able to get awful food in fast food places everywhere and having to wait for home-cooked dishes that take forever to cook. Can the Spanish not do quick tasteless ‘ping’ food?

Fireworks
Getting woken by church bells or fireworks from a local fiesta. Do they not realise us Brits want peace and quiet, not happiness and celebrations.

Traffic
Having to put up with long straight motorways with no other traffic on them and driving through cities with little congestion.

Coffee
Having to drink coffee that isn’t from Starbucks or Costa and only costs between €1 and €1.30. When will the Spanish realise they can make much more money by massively overcharging for a polystyrene cup of tasteless froth rather than using actual coffee?

Alcohol
Why is alcohol so ridiculously cheap here? And yet there is no late night fighting in the streets?

Chicken Shops
The roast chicken shops. Why do we have to put up with that delicious smell of roast chicken as we walk down every Spanish street? What’s wrong with KFC? Why can’t the Spanish bung it all in a cardboard bucket and add watery coleslaw that no-one wants?

Manana
Why not put off until tomorrow what you can’t be bothered to do today? Don’t the Spanish realise that the Brits want everything done right now?

Olives
Do we really need a plate of olives with every drink? What’s wrong with a few pork scratchings just for a change?

Beaches
Miles of endless warm sandy beaches. What’s wrong with a nice cold beach full of pebbles?
