Easter Week (or Semana Santa as it is known in Spain) is the most important religious celebration of the year in Spain. Beginning on Domingo de Ramos (Palm Sunday) and ending with Lunes de Pascua (Easter Monday), all over Spain processions take place in the streets carrying religious icons and symbols.

You can be guaranteed there will be processions, carnivals, street music and religious themed displays by masked penitents carrying pasos on their shoulders, which are beautiful displays of The Virgin Mary, Jesus and Biblical scenes, through the streets of Alicante. These floats will have taken all year to prepare and are richly adorned with flowers, lace and jewels. But come nightfall, the sombre mood changes and the party begins!

The Alicante Easter Parade will include daily processions from Palm Sunday (Domingo de Ramos)until Easter Sunday (Domingo de Resurraccion) and, during the days between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, each Brotherhood will hold its own parade, all of which have different starting and finishing points and follow various routes, but at some point during the route, all of the parades will pass along the Rambla de Mendez Nunez in Alicante.

The best way to enjoy these spectacular parades is to wait along the Rambla de Mendez Nunez in either the morning or the evening. The best Semana Santa Easter parades in Alicante to watch are the processions at 11.30 on Palm Sunday, 10.30 on Good Friday and 11.00 Easter Sunday.
