Massive Success For The Alicante Hogueras
In terms of both visitor numbers and economic impact on Alicante, the Hogueras fiesta, which heralds the beginning of the summer solstice, brought in record figures with super weather conditions and a weekend finale combining to bring visitors flocking to Alicante, with virtually every hotel full and occupancy rates of nearly 100%.
Eva Montesinos, the Alicante Tourism councillor, revealed that almost 200,000 visitors from the UK arrived in Alicante for the fiesta, with total visitor numbers hitting almost 1 million, which translates into an income for Alicante of more than 70 million euros spent during the week with the Tourist Offices in Alicante seeing an average of 3400 visitors per day. The culmination of the fiesta on Saturday June 24th, when the bonfires were lit was the busiest night of the year in Alicante, with visitor numbers topping 300,000.
