Whilst the actual date is still to be confirmed, Alicante Airport’s new Terminal at El Altet is on target to open at the end of March.<
Alicante El Altet Airport’s New Terminal
It will be a complex business as the current Terminals 1 and 2 will be transferred overnight to the new Terminal, with business to start in the new Terminal the next morning. The night this will happen has not yet been confirmed but as much as possible is being done beforehand, but last minute operations will be inevitable for the airlines and companies operating at the airport.
Even more so with the airlines that have planes stored overnight at El Altet, such as Ryanair, Iberia and Spanair.
To make this possible, Alicante airport has spent months, in conjunction with AENA, testing the new systems from computers to passenger flows. To ensure a smooth transition, all airport employees have been attending sessions to familiarise themselves with the new Terminal.
In addition, the Guardia Civil and the National Police will be checking all security aspects of the new Terminal.

With the opening of the new terminal at the end of March 2011, new destinations and airlines will be operational. The new destinations include the Hungarian airline Wizzair flying to the Transylvanian capital of Cluj, and Bucharest. There will also be additional direct flights to Milan, Kaunas, Magdeburg, Tampere in Finland.
