Alicante has been getting festive this year with more street decorations and activities for all the family to enjoy Christmas in Alicante.

Christmas In Alicante

Alicante Town Hall has been busy organising many activities for Christmas in Alicante this year. Christmas in Alicante is very much a family affair and, at Christmas, the Alicante streets shimmer with dazzling lights, nativity scenes (belenes) decorate the avenues and the fantastic Christmas markets in Alicante liven up both large and small squares. Following are some of the highlights that you can enjoy in Alicante at Christmas.

Nativity Scene – Town Hall Square, Alicante

Opened on 2nd Dec at 12.00, this lovely festive scene which will run until 5th January 2012, was accompanied by music from the band ‘El Todelto’.

Cascaruja Market – Christmas In Alicante

Situated in the Town Hall Square in Alicante from 2nd December until 8th January 2012, the Cascaruja market is full of original craft stalls selling sweets, nuts, chocolates, wooden toys etc and is open every day from 11.00 – 14.00 and 16.30 – 22.00.

Nazareno Market – Christmas In Alicante

Situated in Gabriel Miro Square, with the lovely old trees, the yearly Alicante Medieval Christmas market, which is open from 17th – 20th December from 10.00-14.30 and again from 17.00 – 22.00 contains around 60 stalls including a live nativity scene with goats, donkeys, chickens etc plus Mary and Joseph holding baby Jesus in the stable – very popular with the children of Alicante! Plus there are workshops, stalls selling traditional Alicante sweets and breads, mouth-watering chestnuts and craft stalls. All the vendors are dressed in Medieval costumes and traditional Christmas music drifts through the streets of Alicante to make a very festive Christmas atmosphere!

House Of Santa Claus at Christmas In Alicante

Situated in La Ereta Park in Alicante’s Mount Benacantil from December 3rd is the house of Santa Claus! Visits include storytelling, workshops and music plus a wishing well and the chance to have your photo taken with Santa in Alicante!

Museo de Belenes – Christmas In Alicante

This museum, located in C/San Agustin in Alicante’s Old Town, just behind Alicante Town Hall, is open all year round and is a permanent exhibition of traditional nativity scenes in Alicante. Look for the sign ‘Museo de Belenes’ and you will find hundreds of nativity scenes, not just from Alicante, but from around the world! Definitely worth a visit if you are on holiday in Alicante at any time of year! Admission is free.

Christmas Carols in Alicante

For Christmas Carols in Alicante there is a free Christmas Concert in Alicante performed by Alicante’s Municipal Band on 22nd December at 20.00 in the Teatro Principal, plus there are Christmas Choirs in Alicante at the following locations :
16th Dec Montaneta Square in Alicante at 19.00
17th Dec Central Market in Alicante at 12.00
22nd Dec Avda Fredico Soto in Alicante 19.00
