Alicante is planning two loud pyrotechnics events in the city’s Plaza de los Luceros during the Christmas period. The mascletas are scheduled for 31st December and again on 4th January both at 2pm.
For those who have never heard mascletas, these are loud daytime firecrackers which are released amidst much smoke and are absolutely deafening!
Alicante Council Spokesman Manuel Villar, said the decision to put on the firecracker spectaculars had been as a response to requests from small businesses and that the two pyrotechnic shows would be different from each other. The New Year’s Eve event will be “more digital”, whilst the one on 4th January would be “more on the classic line”and said that the second mascleta will be on a Saturday – just before the Three Kings Bank Holiday which is traditionally the big Christmas present giving day here in Spain.
