The traditional San Anton animal celebrations in Alicante take place in mid January each year.

The San Anton Fiesta in Alicante is when all the animals of the city are blessed. In 2016, this will take place from the 16th to the 24th January.

San Anton Fiesta Blessing Of Animals

This popular fiesta in Alicante, which is attended by some 4,000 people annually includes a Medieval Market, processions and obviously the ceremony to bless the animals in the Plaza de Toros in Alicante. Most of the animals brought to be blessed are dogs, but Alicante residents also bring their cats, rabbits, turtles, rodents, birds and even snails!

20.00 Inauguration of the Stalls and Parades through the streets
21.00 Opening Speeches from the Patio de Sol

19.30 A Solemn Mass followed by a parade ending in a firework display in the Plaza de la Pipa in Alicante. The route of the parade is: Plaza Hospital Viejo, Plaza Santa Teresa, Calle Diaz Moreu, Calle Empecinado, Calle Trafalgar, Plaza Misericordia, Calle La Cuesta, Calle Sevilla, Calle San Carlos, Calle Valencia, Plaza Hospital Viejo.

19.00 Inauguration of the Medieval Market at the Panteon de Quijano Park near the Plaza de Toros in Alicante

12.00 Paella Competition in Calle Valencia
Sunday 24th January 2016
10.15 Procession with the statue of San Anton from the Iglesia to the Plaza de Toros for the Blessing of the animals at 12.00.
