Movehub, an internet site that helps people to move abroad, has compiled a list showing the costs of living abroad for those looking to emigrate.
Using data collated by a Consumer Price Index and factoring in the cost of groceries, transportation, restaurants and housing, Movehub reveals that Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Venezuela and Denmark are top of the list when it comes to the high cost of living.

For this latest survey, the CPI has been based on a country’s cost of living compared to New York. So, if a country has a CPI of 70, on average it benefits from 30% cheaper living costs than New York. Spain comes in with a CPI of 65.7, far lower than the cost of living in the UK, which is similar to New York, at 92.9 CPI.

In terms of what is classified as everyday cost of living, in Alicante a coffee will cost the equivalent of £1.28 as opposed to £2.49 in London, a cinema ticket is the equivalent of £6.01 as opposed to £11.26 in London, petrol costs £1.19 in Alicante whilst in London would be £1.40, wine will cost £2.54 in Alicante with London being £6.98, and the average rent in Alicante is £511.49 as opposed to an incredible £2590.76 in London.

Obviously these prices will differ in all cities, but these figures are calculated using the same formula across the entire globe and is indicative of the overall cost of living.
However there is no doubt however that despite the cost of living rising globally, Spain still remains a more cost effective option for both holidaymakers and expats who have chosen Spain as their home and the many more still choosing to invest in property in Spain.
