Public Holidays in Spain 2016

When Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy declared, as part of his proposed labour reforms aimed at saving the Spanish economy the costs that are traditionally associated with puentes (a Spanish custom of taking the day off to bridge the weekend with the holiday) and to do away with mid week public holidays that Spain have always previously enjoyed and move towards the British system, he was met with failure. Below is the official list of all the public holidays for 2016 in Spain.

January 6th Dia de los Reyes Magos, Three Kings Day, Epiphany
March 25th Good Friday
May 1st International Workers Day
August 15th Assumption Day
October 12th Spanish National Day
November 1st All Saints’ Day
December 6th Constitution Day
December 8th Immaculate Conception
December 25th Christmas Day

Apart from these national dates, all regions in Spain have additional holidays. For Alicante they are :
March 19th St Joseph’s Day
March 24th Maundy Thursday
March 28th Easter Monday
December 26th St Stephen’s Day
