Alicante’s airport (El Altet) is located just 9km south-west of Alicante on the east coast of Spain’s Costa Blanca.

As the gateway to the Costa Blanca, the airport was originally opened in May 1967 and replaced the old La Rabassa aerodrome which was built in 1936. The latest renovation was in 1996 and is today the 5th busiest airport in Spain.
It is currently undergoing a major re-investment programme with the new terminal, due to open in March 2011, currently underway.
Up to 80% of its flights are international and Alicante Airport is the 4th largest base for Ryanair, followed by Easyjet and Air Berlin.
