Holiday villas in Spain appear to be proving popular with Brits searching to buy properties abroad, new figures suggest.

Searches for buying Spanish property now exceed those for French homes by 20%, according to Primelocation International. In the past year, searches have shot up by 43% for buying Spanish property, while for France this figure is just 1%. This marks a sharp decline since April 2010, when France was the most popular country amongst Brits searching for overseas property to buy. Ann Wright, international Development Manager at Primelocation International, said that in the past year there has been a change in the searches on the site that suggests France no longer holds the appeal it once did for British people looking for a holiday villa overseas and people want to buy property in Spain.
Additionally Experian Hitwise reported recently that Spain remains a firm favourite for online holiday flight searches.
