This year Alicante’s giant Nativity scene makes the Guinness Book of World Records!
Alicante has spent a staggering €15,000 extra this year on a giant nativity scene in the Town Hall Square in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record, a record previously held by Mexico’s 5.2m tall Mary and Joseph. In Alicante this year the nativity scene features an incredible 18.5m tall Joseph, 17m Mary and a 3.5m baby Jesus!
On December 1st 2020, a Guinness World Record’s judge viewed Alicante’s nativity scene remotely and confirmed that it has made the Records Book.
Alicante’s Town Hall confirmed the world breaking nativity scene cost a total of €138,000, compared to 2019’s €98,800.
A spokesperson for Alicante Town Hall said “Having the largest nativity scene in the world – certified by the Guinness Book of World Records, is a source of attraction because it enhances the image of Alicante on a national and international level.”
