So say WhichBudget.com following an internet poll which showed that half of the people surveyed did not take out adequate travel insurance to Spain.

The online survey saw that 44% of those polled did not purchase any form of insurance when travelling abroad for their villa or apartment holiday in Spain. 8% travelled to Spain with just their European Health Insurance Card which, in some cases, does not guarantee free medical treatment. 11% of UK travellers did not take out any form of insurance when travelling outside the European Union.
There was a marked difference in nationalities. 37% of UK travellers went abroad with insurance whilst 25% of Spaniards did and only 10% of Italians were adequately insured.
Bearing in mind recent problems such as the infamous ash cloud, tour operator and airline collapse, cabin crew and air traffic control strikes, it seems many people are willing to take a risk, a risk that could cost them hundreds or even thousands of pounds added onto their Spanish holiday.
