The dangers of holidaying to Spain without Travel Insurance

According to a recent survey by ABTA, almost 1 in 5 British holidaymakers holiday abroad without any type of travel insurance as 19% of British travellers think it unnecessary.

Mike Monk, ABTA’s Head of Finance said, “It is very concerning that 19% of holidaymakers are going to other countries, like Spain, without insurance, running the risk of having to pay huge medical bills.”

A popular misconception amongst travellers renting holiday villas and apartments in Alicante, is that the UK Government will pay for their medical expenses in the event of an emergency in Spain. The EHIC card will only cover holidaymakers for emergency treatment in Spain, but will not cover air ambulance costs, repatriation expenses, nor protection against lost baggage, flight cancellation, additional expenses arising from an extended stay, additional meals etc if you need to stay in Spain due to a member of your party being ill or injured whilst in Spain.  Therefore Alicante Holiday Villas recommends you take out a family travel insurance policy when renting a villa or apartment in Alicante.
